About Us

Franciscan Young Adults (FYA) was born out of the inaugural “Sequela Christi – 2019” pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Rome and Assisi. This pilgrimage was catered for young adults in December of 2019, just prior to the outbreak of the global pandemic.

Following the pilgrimage, this group of young adult Catholics continued to journey with the Franciscan friars through Scriptures (weekly lectio divina), monthly Franciscan Formation or Human Formation on Franciscan Spirituality or catholic social teaching, and the periodic zoom meetings with the global Franciscan family of friars, cloistered Poor Clare nuns, Franciscan YouTube personalities, friars working in the area of the United Nations Human Rights Commission and missionaries in Latin America. This provided a universal appreciation of the Franciscan charism at work in different cultures and countries.

Come and find out more. We meet every Monday, 8pm, what better way to start off your week! Also, do check out our and social media channels below.

Our Welcome Message

Dear friends,

Greetings of Peace and all Good!

The Franciscan Young Adults (18 – 35 yrs) is a fraternity of young women and men who find inspiration in the spirituality of St Francis and St Clare of Assisi.

These two saints and the 800 year history and patrimony arising from them remain the inspiration for our group.

Franciscan Spirituality has contributed much to the development of the Christian faith and remains a force for spiritual energy in today’s world.

Pope Francis, as what we call the “Francis moment” takes his inspiration from the Poverello from Assisi to lead the Church and the world towards a keen sense of awareness of our common home (Laudato Si) and our intimate connectedness to one another (Fratelli Tutti).

We welcome young adults who wish to journey on this common path of Franciscan spirituality.

Welcome once again and wishing you peace and all good!

Fraternally yours,

Friar John-Paul Tan, OFM, JCL

Spiritual Assistant to FYA

Our Sessions

Jesus said, `Come and see.’ They went and saw the place where Jesus was staying. The time was about four o’clock in the afternoon. They stayed with Jesus the rest of the day. – John 1: 39

FYA invites you to come for our sessions and see for yourself.

Our Monday Sessions

Hybrid Sessions: Zoom + physical

  • We gather weekly for a combined Lectio Divina or formation session. Join our Zoom session every Monday 8pm (UTC +8) or meet up at 7pm at respective locations for a simple meal before breaking the word together. Join us at:

East: Church of the Holy Family
Downtown: Church of St Joseph, Victoria Street (Lucia & Jacintha)

Franciscan Formation & Human Formation

  • Every month, our community gathers together for a session of Franciscan Formation, the deepening of our Franciscan Spirituality, or Human Formation, taking topics from Catholic Social Teaching to better reflect Christ on our daily lives.

Our Franly Committee

“Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received – only what you have given: a full heart, enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage.” – St Francis of Assisi

Mission, Fellowship and Retreats

Besides our Monday sessions, FYA provides a framework for our groups to mature as a fraternity centered upon Christ, through the Franciscan Spirituality.

We engage in mission work, sharing of our lives through fellowship, and contemplation and reflection of life through an annual group retreat at San Damiano Spirituality Centre.

Pilgrimages

Fraternitas – FYA hosts an annual pilgrimage in December. Our pilgrimage is led by Friar John Paul. Come and enter into a personal journey of self discovery, awakening and deepening. Walk in the footsteps of St Francis and welcome the child Jesus into our hearts as we visit these Holy sites. The pilgrimage destinations are rotated between Holy Land and Franciscan Italy. (Do you know? Franciscans are given guardianship of the most precious sites of the Christian faith in the Holy Land. There is also a post held by a Friar as the Holy Land Vice Commissariat in Singapore)
